Finite Element Analysis (FEA):

The use of finite element analysis (FEA) software has been beneficial in determining the stress within parts to determine whether parts have failed due to fatigue failure stress or static overload stress. The models can be made even more complex to replicate dynamic loads and such as collisions or surface to surface contact of machine components. Dynamic testing can also be used to determine the velocities needed to cause certain failures of components.
