4X Forensic Engineering Laboratories has a wide range of experience in fire scene examination, product defect analysis and recall related work for fire hazards. The laboratory has some particularly unique capabilities in the area of computerized heat transfer and fire modeling.
These capabilities have proven to be highly useful in supporting opinions in the areas of fire causation and spread. Fire and thermal modeling capabilities have been of great use in determining whether a product failure mode would be sufficiently hot enough to cause ignition of combustible materials. Our fire and thermal modeling capabilities have been utilized to determine points of origin, fire spread times, smoke distribution, combustible gas leak simulations and fire timelines.
We also have had over the years an array of experience in failure testing of products and temperature testing within the laboratories.
